Dear Sir:

We beg to acknowledge receipt of your favor of the llth instamt, contents of which we have noted with thanks.

Referring to the two lots of silver so far received by us under our arrangement for the deposit of silver bullion in San Fran- cisco against shipment of the same to us here from Philadelphia, we

would say that, in valving silver for express purposes, the Mint

seems to have valued the same at a value far above the market.

We have written to the Superintendent of the Mint in Philadelphia, requesting him in future to value the silver at its market value in order not to pay too much expressage. Kindly instruct the Super- intendent at Philadelphia to that effect. We should be pleased if future shipments to us will be valued at the fixed rate of 62-1/2 cents per ounce, which valuation might be taken on the basis of the enext highest even thousand ounces, to save the inconvenience of

figuring the value on odd amounts.

Dear Sir:-

I have made a careful examination of the machinery in this Mint and recommend the purchase of the following machines and necessary material with their approximate cost.

Two sets of rolls $2500.00

One lot of shafting

Belting for shafting The superintendent of machinery, Mr. Emery, and myself have looked the matter in hand over thoroughly and agree that the Mint is in need of such improvements for an increased output.

In addition to this I would suggest that a typewriter be

employed in Superintendent Boothby's office.
